Judge Jamie Cork was appointed to the bench in Minnesota on August 3, 2016, by
Governor Mark Dayton. She was elected in 2018 and 2024, with her current term
expiring Jan. 2031. Judge Cork has extensive experience in ICWA, which she brings to
her presentation.
Jamie Cork began her education at Fox Valley Technical College in Appleton, WI with
an AA degree in political science in 1992, received a bachelor of science in criminal
justice from Mount Senario College in Ladysmith, WI in 1994, and Juris Doctor from
Hamline University School of Law in Saint Paul, MN in 1998. Jamie began working with
the Hennepin County Attorney’s Office in Minneapolis as an assistant county attorney in
1999 working within child protection and juvenile prosecution divisions until 2016.
Jamie gained extensive experience during this time in ICWA and MIFPA, and working
with tribal nations. Since 2016 Ms. Cork has served as a district court judge, often
hearing ICWA cases.
Ms. Cork has established professional memberships the Children’s Justice Initiative,
Child Trafficking and Exploitation Work Group, First District Equal Justice Committee,
Dakota County Domestic Violence Coordinated Community Response Team, Safe
Harbor Legislation Committee, State Model Protocol Workgroup on Human Trafficking
and CP/CW, Gerald Vick Trafficking Taskforce, and Hennepin County Girls Continuum
of Care Committee. Ms. Cork has continuously engaged in ICWA education and
implementation throughout her career, participating in several ICWA Initiative
committees both state and local throughout her career, including teaching ICWA to the
bench and bar. Ms. Cork has worked with the federal DEA on training around cultural
sensitivity working with tribal communities, and provides regular statewide presentations
on behalf of the CJI on ICWA. Ms. Cork has also been invested in addressing human
trafficking issues, especially among youth. She has participated in statewide initiatives,
workgroups, legislative groups, education and policy work. Ms. Cork has provided
statewide, national and international presentations on sex trafficking of minors and safe
harbor initiatives.
