What to Know for Monday at Summer Institute

Welcome!

We are so looking forward to welcoming you to the Summer Institute next week in Bemidji.

We will begin our time together on Monday morning at 6:30 a.m. with an optional sunrise ceremony outside the Sanford Center. TTCP staff will be outside and visible that morning to help direct anyone who would like to join us. This ceremony is optional, but we are grateful to have the opportunity to begin our gathering in this way.

Later that day, there will be two optional ceremony offerings available in the afternoon. Opening offerings will begin at 1:30 p.m., and ceremonies will begin at 2:00 p.m.

Afternoon Ceremony Options — Monday, June 15

Sweat Lodge

The sweat lodge will begin at 2:00 p.m., with opening offerings beginning at 1:30 p.m.

This is an open lodge, and women, men, and youth are welcome. Participants are encouraged to bring any items they may need for ceremony, such as a towel, skirt, shorts, tobacco, or other personal items. Pipes, drums, and shakers are also welcome.

For anyone who would like to make an offering but does not plan to sweat, there will be an opportunity to offer tobacco to the fire during the opening offering time.

Water Drum Ceremony

A water drum ceremony will also be offered beginning at 2:00 p.m.

Through medicine, prayer, and song, the water drum helps us connect with spirit helpers. The ceremony creates vibrational energy that is healing for participants. All that is asked is that you come with an open heart and an open mind.

Women are asked to bring a skirt to wear in ceremony. If you are on your moon time, you are welcome to attend and observe, but we respectfully ask that you do not participate in the ceremonies.

Monday Evening Feast

There will also be a Monday evening feast from 6:00–8:00 p.m. at the same location as the water drum ceremony:
